The generic name for Acomplia is Rimonabant.
Acomplia is a weight loss medication that works by selectively blocking the CB1 receptors in your brain, which controls your food intake in your body. When these receptors are blocked, your brain suppresses your appetite, and over time changes your eating cycle so your body knows when it is full, hence you require less food. This helps you then to lose weight.
Acomplia is very effective in reducing your body weight when used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle (a balanced, low calorie diet and regular exercise). To be taken as directed by your doctor.
Acomplia is available in 20mg doses. To take Acomplia, swallow with a full glass of water once daily before breakfast. Do not overdose. If you miss a dose, take as soon as you remember. If it is close to your regular dose, don’t take the skipped dose and just continue your normal dosage cycle.
Acomplia is also said to assist stopping the cravings of smoking. The CB1 receptors that control your food intake are also the same receptors that control smoke cravings. Acomplia blocks the receptors that control weight and cravings, so you not only lose weight, but stop smoking cravings if you’re a smoker. That’s even more incentive to quit smoking and lose weight.
There are some side effects when taking Acomplia, which can subside once your body becomes used to the medication. The side effects you may experience are:
- Nausea
- Mood alteration
- Anxiety
- Dizziness
- Stomach upset
